Search for tickets
From the search box on the homepage, click “more options.” Enter your station(s) and travel dates, then get ready to enter your code.

Apply your code
Back at Promotional Codes, find a code to use on your tickets and copy it, then back at Thetrainline, paste the code in the “promotional codes” box and click “check fares and availability.”

Select your tickets
Review the timetable and click “show prices,” then tick the trip you’d like to buy and click “next.” Select whether you’d like to reserve a seat; if so, tick your seat preferences. If no, click if you’d like travel insurance or a plusbus ticket and click “continue.”

Log in or register
Log in or click “new customer” to create an account. Enter your contact information, create a password and click “register now.”

Choose delivery options and payment
Select a delivery option and click “continue.” Review the details of your trip one last time, agree to the terms and conditions, then click “proceed to payment.” Click "buy tickets" once you're all done; your tickets will be posted, or you can pick them up at a ticket kiosk at your station.

Used it for years - very efficient!, 29 Mar 2012Review by Sally GI've been using theTrainline for years to book regular travel up and down the country. The website is easy to use, you just type in your dates, locations and they provide you with the trains available. They present all the ticketing options so you can get the most value-for-money option for you and it's really quick. You pay (you can save your details so you don't have to fill payment details in every time) and then you receive a code by email that you can use to pick up your ticket, or you can opt to get your tickets sent to you in the post. It really is an efficient service and it has never failed me. The only problem I have is if you need to change or cancel your train it's difficult to get a straight forward exchange or refund. That really is my only complaint though. Love this website!

Trainline - Beware if booking through phone app, 20 Feb 2012Review by TillybelleI booked a couple of tickets through trainline phone app and was delighted at the cost but... When I picked up the tickets they were for different times than I booked. I emailed them and they eventually agreed to refund but only if I re-booked with them. So I called them and they couldn't match the price I had paid. To cut a very long story short, I 've had to post, recorded delivery, at my expense, the tickets back to trainline and wait for a refund. Really not happy with them at all!! My advice, if you are going to use trainline, don't do it on the phone!!

1st time using Trainline website, 05 Jul 2011Review by Carina GrovesI found the Trainline site easy to use, and although I was a bit apprehensive about booking my tickets from London to Brighton since the trip was the next day but I was able to pick them up at the station with no hassles. The only annoyance was that the website makes you sign up for an account and there's no option to check out as guest, which lengthens the process a bit.

Always a quick and efficient system when booking through Trainline.com!, 19 May 2011Review by Mrs V BoltonI often book through Trainline.com and found them to be extremely efficient on line and posting the tickets, next day! I had to obtain a refund one time and the system was very easy to use and the money was refunded into my account no problem. Would not look for any other company to buy my tickets. Very satisfied!

The number of users that the company has shows that most customers are very happy to be using the service and that they are continuing to do so. What has happened to trainline prices? It is now the same price to go to my local station and buy over the counter, for a pre booked ticket. Trainline used to be so competitive.
